Meta Data

Metadata has become a key driving force in the image industry. If the information about the image is carried in the image file, it can be passed on from one party to another without the need for separate sheets of information or unnecessary re-keying.

Recent developments include:

  • The IPTC is defining new fields to add to the IPTC Core schema. These will be published at the second Photometadata Conference in Malta in June.
  • BAPLA  and Pic4Press have created a metadata panel for use in Photoshop with recommended fields for use when supplying publishers.
  • PLUS has created a system for including licensing information (and more) in the image file.

Here you will find:

  • The BAPLA Pic4Press metadata panel
  • Scripts for checking images for metadata
  • Articles on the importance of metadata in the workflow
  • Links to standards bodies

Electric Lane works on metadata with Pic4Press, IPTC, and MILE on behalf of BAPLA.

We can help clients design metadata exchange systems for image files, set up automated scripts for data transfer, create panel scripts for Photoshop, and advise on metadata developments.
